Torrontés is a white wine grape varietal most closely associated with Argentina, though it’s also grown in other regions. There are three varieties of Torrontés: Riojano, Sanjuanino, and Mendocino. The most commonly grown of the three is Torrontés Riojano.
Torrontés wines are known for their distinctive aromatic character, often compared to Gewurztraminer or Muscat. They typically have notes of peach, pear, citrus, and white flowers, with a spicy or musky note.
Despite the perfumed, fruity nose, Torrontés wines are usually dry, not sweet. They often have good acidity and a light-to-medium body, making them a great pairing for a broad range of foods, including spicy Asian or Latin dishes.
In terms of appearance, Torrontés wines are usually pale yellow, sometimes with a hint of green. They're best consumed young, as they don't generally improve with age.
