Arneis is an Italian white grape variety predominantly grown in the Piedmont region of Italy. The name 'Arneis' translates to 'little rascal' in Piemontese, referring to the complexity of growing the variety.
The grape produces notably striking wines known for their lively acidity, floral aromas, and full-bodied character. Arneis wines often showcase flavors of ripe pears, apricots, peaches, almonds, and nuts, along with hints of honey and white flowers.
Despite its delicate taste, Arneis retains a structured, focused palate, often compared to being a white counterpart to the bold red Nebbiolo. While it's primarily consumed young, higher quality Arneis wines can age well.
Arneis is also often blended with Nebbiolo to produce the famous Barolo wines, adding a touch of softness and aromatic complexity. However, Arneis' resurgence in popularity in recent years has led to more single-varietal wines being produced.
