Umpqua Valley is a significant wine-producing region located in southwestern Oregon. It is known for its diverse range of grape varieties due to its range of temperatures and soil types, with more than 40 different grape varieties being grown across the region. Some of the widely grown grape varieties include Pinot Noir, Tempranillo, and Pinot Gris.
The valley spans around 65 miles from Roseburg in the south to Yoncalla in the north. The Umpqua River flows through this valley, which is surrounded by three mountain ranges, making the region rich in scenic beauty with its rolling hills and vineyards.
The climate of Umpqua Valley varies, with the northern area Hhving a cooler, maritime influenced climate ideal for cool-climate grape varieties, whereas the southern area is significantly warmer, suited for warm-climate varieties.
Apart from wineries, the region is also known for outdoor recreational activities like hiking, fishing, rafting and kayaking. Umpqua Valley hosts several events throughout the year including the Umpqua Valley Wine Tasting Competition and the Greatest of the Grape festival, which attracts tourists and wine enthusiasts from all parts of the world.
