Prokupac is an ancient red wine grape variety native to Serbia. It produces a full-bodied wine with high acidity and is capable of aging well. This grape is traditionally used to produce a dark, hardy, and spicy sensory profile with notes of cinnamon and cloves. Overdrive, it can develop complex fruit flavors. However, it can also yield lighter, rosé style wines when vinified differently. It is a very versatile grape, it can be blended with other varieties, used in the production of dessert wines, or vinified on its own. The name Prokupac is allegedly derived from the verb 'prokupati', meaning to sort or select, referring to the practice of choosing the best grape bunches for wine production.
