Tocai Friulano, also simply known as Friulano, is a white wine grape variety that originated from the Friuli region in northeast Italy. It was previously known as Tocai Friulano but the name was shortened to just Friulano in 2007 to avoid confusion with the Hungarian wine Tokaji.
Friulano grapes produce wine that is typically medium bodied, with a floral and almond aroma. On the palate, Friulano wine may offer flavors of green pear, honey, and almond, with moderate acidity. It's widely praised for its ability to express terroir and its versatility with food pairings, going well with a variety of dishes from seafood to cured meats.
Despite its origins in Italy, the Friulano variety is also now grown and produced in several other wine regions across the world, including parts of California, Argentina, and Australia.
