Orange Muscat is a white wine grape variety that originates in the French-Italian border. It is best known for its use in dessert wines, particularly in Valdobbiadene e Conegliano, Italy, and in parts of Australia and California.
This varietal is unique for its robust amount of citrus 'orange blossom' aroma, along with a high sweetness level which often falls into the semi-sweet or sweet category. These attributes make it distinctive among the numerous Muscat varietals.
Its primary flavors include apricot, peach, orange peel, rose and vanilla. Typically, Orange Muscat wines are light-bodied and served chilled. Often, these wines will also have a slight effervescence.
These wines are excellent when paired with desserts, particularly those involving fruit or sweet cream, as the sweetness of the wine complements these flavors well.
