Muscadet

Muscadet is a type of white wine grape and wine that originates from the Loire Valley in France. The grape is also known as Melon de Bourgogne. The wine produced from this grape is light-bodied, dry, and frequently has a minerally taste. It also traditionally has subtle flavors of lime, green apple, and sometimes a briney or salty character, contributing to its reputation as a good pairing for seafood, especially shellfish like oysters. Some Muscadet wines are aged on the lees, or residual yeast particles, which can add complexity, creaminess, and sometimes a slight effervescence to the wine. These wines are typically labelled as "sur lie". Despite its name, Muscadet wine does not have any musky or Muscat-like flavors — "Muscadet" instead references the region in France where the grape is mainly grown.
