Chardonnay Spumante Extra Dry is a sparkling wine variety from the Chardonnay grape, usually produced in Italy where it is known as "Spumante". The term "extra dry" may seem misleading as it, paradoxically, implies that the wine is slightly sweet. However, in the context of sparkling wines, extra dry is indeed slightly sweet.
This varietal typically has a pale straw color, often characterized by a delicate, complex and fruity nose. It can offer crisp, fresh apple, pear, or citrus flavors, along with certain floral and mineral undertones. Some versions might even have subtle bready or yeasty notes similar to a Champagne or Prosecco, given to the secondary fermentation process.
Chardonnay Spumante Extra Dry typically has high acidity and a medium body, making it a perfect option for aperitifs, celebrations, or paired with light appetizers, salads, fish, and seafood. The alcohol content is usually anywhere from 11.5% to 12.5%.
Considered one of the most versatile wines, it can be enjoyed universally, irrespective of the event, season, or time of the day. However, it should be served chilled to best savor the complex profiles it offers.
