Vinos de Madrid is a Spanish Denominación de Origen (DO) for wines produced in the region of Madrid, Spain. It was formally recognized in 1990, with its scope covering 54 municipalities divided into three regions: Arganda, Navalcarnero, and San Martin.
The vineyards cover approximately 8,000 hectares and are at altitudes between 500 and 800 meters. The majority of the wine produced in the region is red, made primarily from the Tempranillo grape, but white wines are also produced, primarily from the Malvar and Airén grape varieties.
The region has a diverse climate, from the Mediterranean in the south to the semi-Mediterranean in the north. This diversity allows for the production of a variety of wine styles.
Vinos de Madrid are known for their quality and have started to gain international recognition, with several wines from the region winning awards at international competitions. Despite this, they remain quite affordable and offer good value for money.
The Vinos de Madrid DO also encourages sustainable and organic farming practices, resulting in wines that are not only high quality but also environmentally friendly.
