The Province of Pavia is a province in the Lombardy region of Italy. Its capital is the city of Pavia and it borders the provinces of Milan and Lodi to the north, Piacenza (Emilia-Romagna) to the south, and Alessandria (Piedmont) to the west and with the region of Liguria on the east.
Spread over an area of approximately 2,965.44 square kilometers, the province is marked by plains in the north and vineyards in the south. There are numerous castles, museums, and interesting historical sites throughout the province.
The province has a predominantly agricultural economy, with rice and cereals being the main crops along with viticulture. The Oltrepò Pavese region, which lies in the southern part of the province, is known for its vineyards and wine production.
The province is also known for its historical and cultural wealth. The University of Pavia, one of the oldest universities in Europe, is located here.
It is subdivided into 190 comuni (municipalities), within diverse climates and landscapes from mountains to hills and plains.
As for its cuisine, the area is known for its rich and varied offerings, renowned for its risottos, salamis and wine production.
