Naoussa is a small city located in the Imathia region of northern Greece. Known for its vibrant agricultural industry, Naoussa is particularly famous for its peaches and its wines, especially Xinomavro, a red wine grape variety.
The city is home to approximately 30,000 people and is mentioned in Greek history as far back as the time of Alexander the Great. It is known for its traditional Greek charm, with its old-fashioned market, cobblestone streets, Byzantine churches and quaint town square filled with cafes and tavernas.
Naoussa is also home to several notable sites, including the Aristotle's School where the famous philosopher taught Alexander the Great, and the park of Agios Nikolaos which contributes to a great extent to the high aesthetic of the city with the waterfalls, the paths between the trees and the coffee shops and the beautiful playgrounds.
One of the main events in Naoussa is the annual carnival "Naoussa's Carnival", which attracts visitors from all over the country to witness traditional costumes, music, dances and theatrical performances.
The surroundings of Naoussa are characterized by the rich vegetation and the traditional vineyards, showing an enchanting sight to its visitors. Naoussa holds an important place in Greek viticulture and winemaking. Historically a red wine producing region, Naoussa is famous for its local variety of Xinomavro grape.
Moreover, it is quite close, about 20km, to the archaeological site of Vergina - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - with the Royal Tombs, including the Tomb of King Philip II of Macedonia, father of Alexander the Great.
There are also ski resorts in the region, making it a popular destination in both summer and winter. The local economy revolves around agriculture, forestry and tourism. It combines the tranquillity of a small town with a vibrant social and cultural scene.
