Amyntaio is a small town located in the Florina region of Macedonia, in northern Greece. It is the site of a large power plant and vast vineyards, contributing to the local economy.
This town, with a population of around 4,000, is situated at an elevation of approximately 600 meters, providing a cool climate that is ideal for wine production. The region is known for the production of Xinomavro, a robust red wine that is one of Greece's most famous.
One of the main attractions in Amyntaio is the artificial lake Vegoritida, also known as Lake Arnissa. This lake is home to various bird species, making it a popular spot for bird watching. The nearby Nymfaio village, a well-preserved traditional settlement is a charming tourist spot.
In terms of infrastructure, Amyntaio has a railway station that connects it to Thessaloniki, the second-largest city in Greece.
Historically, the town dates back to the times of Alexander the Great, and was named after one of his generals named Amyntas.
