The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) is a government agency created by virtue of the Republic Act 7916, also known as the "Special Economic Zone Act of 1995," as amended by Republic Act 8748. PEZA is tasked to promote investments, extend assistance, register, grant incentives to and facilitate the business operations of investors in export-oriented manufacturing and service facilities inside selected areas throughout the country proclaimed by the President of the Philippines as PEZA Special Economic Zones.
PEZA is attached to the Department of Trade and Industry and is headed by a Director General. It operates as an independent body although it is administratively attached to the DTI, providing businesses with a conducive investment climate, including legal and regulatory support, infrastructure and utilities, and trade-related services.
PEZA's goals include the creation of employment opportunities, increase export earnings, and stimulate the flow of foreign direct investment into the country. The economic zones developed, operated, and maintained by PEZA are important components of the country's economic growth, contributing significantly to the country's export revenues and providing employment opportunities to Filipinos.
