Eola-Amity Hills is a wine region located in the Willamette Valley, in the state of Oregon, USA. The region, which got its AVA (American Viticultural Area) status in 2006, spans almost 40,000 acres stretching from Amity in the north to Salem in the south.
Named after the community of Eola, which was originally settled in the mid-19th century, it's known for its diverse soils with marine sedimentary and volcanic bases that carry traces of ancient fossils. It also enjoys a moderate climate, marked by cool prevailing winds coming from the Pacific Ocean via the Van Duzer Corridor. These factors contribute to the unique and complex characteristics of the wines produced in the area, particularly its Pinot Noir.
Eola-Amity Hills is home to numerous renowned vineyards and wineries, including Bethel Heights Vineyard, Cristom Vineyards, and Domaine Drouhin Oregon, among others. The wines from the Eola-Amity Hills region are celebrated for their elegance, balance, and complexity, noted for their dark fruit flavors and pronounced minerality.
Given the region's beautiful topography marked by steep, rolling hills and an impressive view of Oregon's highest peak, Mount Hood, it's not just a haven for wine lovers but also for visitors who come to appreciate the natural beauty of the region. The area is also engaged in environmentally sound practices, with many of its vineyards being either organic or biodynamic.
