Arkansas is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. It shares borders with six other states: Missouri to the north, Tennessee and Mississippi to the east, Louisiana to the south, Texas to the southwest, and Oklahoma to the west.
Arkansas’s capital and most populous city is Little Rock. It is nicknamed 'The Natural State' due to its diverse landscapes that include mountains, forests, rivers and hot springs.
The state's economy is diverse, including sectors such as agriculture (with products like poultry and eggs, soybeans, and rice), aviation, manufacturing, and mining. Additionally, Arkansas is home to several Fortune 500 companies, including the world’s largest corporation by revenue, Walmart.
The residents, known as Arkansans, enjoy a variety of cultural happenings and sports teams. Outdoor activities are popular in Arkansas, thanks to its many parks and wilderness areas, with terrain encompassing mountains, caves, rivers and hot springs. The rugged Ozarks region in its northwest has hiking trails and limestone caves such as Blanchard Springs Caverns.
The University of Arkansas is the state’s largest university, also home to the Arkansas Razorbacks sports teams.
Arkansas played a key role in the civil rights movement in the 1950s, especially with the Little Rock Nine incident, where nine African-American students enrolled at a previously all-white school, marking an important moment of integration in U.S. education history.
