St. David's Bench is a wine-producing region in the Niagara Peninsula of Ontario, Canada. It is recognized as a designated viticultural area and is known for its unique microclimate and geologically varied soils. This provides a perfect condition for growing a wide range of grape styles. The area, spanning more than 5,691 acres, produces grapes that are used to make world-class wines, particularly award-winning reds like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
St. David's Bench is located on an elevated plateau and lies to the north of the Niagara Escarpment. It is known for its moderate climate with warm summers which further helps in the ripening of the grapes. Due to the elevated region, the cooler air drains downslope, reducing the risk of spring and autumn frosts, which can be catastrophic to the vines.
In addition to the vineyards, St. David's Bench is home to several renowned wineries, including Chateau des Charmes and Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery, where visitors can tour, participate in wine tastings, and enjoy the stunning surroundings.
