Trincadeira is a red wine grape varietal native to Portugal. It is known for its deep, garnet-colored wines, with flavors ranging from black fruits, like plum and blackberry, to more complex notes of cocoa and coffee from its time in oak.
Also known as Tinta Amarela, Trincadeira is a high-yielding grape variety that thrives in dry climates but it is susceptible to rot, making it difficult to cultivate in wetter regions. This grape is often used in blends to create balanced wines. It has good sugar content, reasonable levels of acidity, and tannins that contribute to structure and aging potential.
Due to these qualities, Trincadeira is an important component in the production of the famous Port wine, as well as table wines in the Alentejo and Douro regions.
