Corot Noir is a hybrid red grape varietal that was developed at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva by grape breeder Bruce Reisch. It was named after the French landscape painter Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot.
This variety is known for producing deep red wines with berry and cherry aromas, with some also noting a hint of cotton candy. The wines made from Corot Noir are typically medium-bodied, with moderate acidity and tannin levels.
Corot Noir is quite versatile and can be used to make a variety of wine types, including still red wines, rosés, and sparkling wines. It is also often blended with other varieties to enhance the wine's color and flavor.
It is disease resistant and cold hardy which makes it a suitable varietal for growing in the cool climate of the Finger Lakes region of New York and other Northern American viticulture areas.
