Zinfandel

Zinfandel is a variety of red grape that is predominantly found in California, although its origins trace back to Croatia. This varietal is well-loved for its robust and full-bodied profile, producing intense and flavorful wines with high alcohol content.

Zinfandel wines often carry a zest of berry-like fruity flavor, mainly raspberry, blackberry, cherry and sometimes with a hint of black pepper, spice and licorice. The flavor profile may also exhibit notes of tobacco, espresso, and savory herbs depending on the age and region of the vines.

There are also lighter, rosé-style wines known as White Zinfandel, which are semi-sweet to sweet and have a pink color. Some Zinfandel wines can be kept for aging, which helps in softening its high tannin level and brings out its rich fruity flavors and aroma.

Zinfandel wines pair well with a variety of foods, especially meats like lamb, beef and pork, and dishes with rich and spicy sauces.
