Tramini, also known as Gewürztraminer, is a white wine grape varietal resulting in wines with a strong aroma and flavor profile. This grape is one of the most aromatic and perfumed wine varietals in the world. It produces full-bodied wines with high acidity. The flavor is characteristically floral with notes of lychee, rose petal, and sometimes a spicy hint of ginger. When grown in warmer climates, Tramini produces wines with higher sweetness levels.
This grape is originally from the wine-growing region of Alsace, France, but today it is cultivated in various parts of the world including Germany, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, United States and other countries. Depending on the local climate and wine-making techniques, Tramini wine can vary from dry to sweet. This varietal pairs well with strong and spicy foods, and also can be enjoyed on its own due to its distinctive and bold flavors.
In terms of appearance, Tramini grapes are small to medium-sized and have a deep pink-red skin which can look almost light red in certain light. Despite the darker skin, they are used to create white wine, not rose or red. The wines they produce usually have a deep golden hue.
