The Tamjanika varietal is a white grape variety indigenous to Serbia, but also found in other regions of the Balkans. It is actually a clone of the Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains grape variety. It produces a rich and full-bodied white wine with distinctive flavors and aromas.
Wines made from Tamjanika are known for their floral and fruity aromas, with predominant notes of rose, peach, and apricot, often coupled with oriental herbs or honey undertones. Some versions also have a slight spiciness. While typically made as a dry wine, there are also semi-dry and dessert styles.
On the palate, the wines are well-balanced, with medium acidity and a medium body. They are often characterized by their exotic, refreshing, and elegant taste. As they age, the wines' white flower and fruit flavors may be complemented with flavors reminiscent of honey or confectionery.
Tamjanika wines are perfect to serve as an aperitif because of their floral, aromatic nature. They can also pair well with spicy foods, rich cheeses, and desserts due to the wines' slightly sweet nature. Regardless, it’s always suggested to serve Tamjanika wines chilled to maintain their freshness.
