Siegerrebe, a white wine grape, is a cross between Madeleine Angevine and Gewürztraminer varietals. It was developed in Germany in 1929. Its name means "Victory vine" in German. This varietal is known for its intense, spicy bouquet and high natural sugar level, which often results in wines with high alcohol content. Siegerrebe has been grown extensively in Germany and also in some parts of United States, Canada and England.
The grape is highly sensitive to frost and vine disease but can yield a heavy crop under ideal conditions. Despite its drawbacks, Siegerrebe is still appreciated for its ability to ripen early while producing highly aromatic wines, often with exotic spicy and floral notes, similar to Gewürztraminer.
The Siegerrebe wines typically feature pronounced aromas of grapefruit, peach, and passion fruit, alongside a hint of muscat. Because of their sweet and aromatic characteristics, they are often used for dessert wines or off-dry styles.
