Rkatsiteli is a white grape varietal native to the country of Georgia. It is one of the oldest wine producing grapes in the world, with a history dating back thousands of years. The name translates to "red stem", which is prevalent in the appearance of its vine. The Rkatsiteli grape produces wines that are high in acidity, with fruity flavors and a crisp, light body. These wines often feature notes of apple, pear, and quince, and they can also have hints of nuts or spices in finish. Some winemakers also age Rkatsiteli wines in oak to enhance their complexity. Outside of Georgia, the grape is also grown in Eastern Europe, particularly Moldova and Ukraine, and it's gaining popularity in the United States, specifically in the Finger Lakes region of New York.
