Prosecco is a white grape varietal grown primarily in the Veneto region of Italy. The wine produced from it is also referred to as Prosecco, and it's most famous for its sparkling (spumante) version, although it's also produced as still (tranquillo) and slightly sparkling (frizzante).
The sparkling Prosecco is often lighter, creamier, and a bit less persistent than Champagne, given its primary fermentation process - the Charmat method. The still version is less common and is a more fruit-forward, off-dry white wine.
In terms of flavor, Prosecco is noted for its aromatic, bright fruit flavors of green apple, pear, and honeydew, along with floral notes of honeysuckle and jasmine. It also contains delicate hints of cream and vanilla. Prosecco is generally considered a delightful, easy-drinking wine fit for celebrations and everyday sipping.
