Petite Sirah

Petite Sirah is a red wine grape variety that originates from France, and it is known for its rich, dark color, powerful flavors and full body. While the grape's name might suggest it's a smaller version of Syrah, it's actually a distinct variety, known as Durif, a cross between Syrah and Peloursin grapes.

The wines produced from Petite Sirah are typically very dark, almost inky in color, and they are known for their high tannin content, which gives them a robust, complex structure. Because of their tannins, they are also quite age-worthy.

Aromas and flavors in Petite Sirah can range from deep red and black fruits such as blackberry, blueberry, and black cherry to savory and spicy nuances like black pepper, licorice, and dark chocolate. You may also get hints of tobacco, coffee, and leather.

Given the high tannins and robust character, Petite Sirah pairs well with richly flavored foods such as grilled meats, game, BBQ, or strong cheeses. It's also excellent for sipping on its own.
