Muscadelle is a white grape varietal used in producing wine. It is found mainly in the Bordeaux region of France, particularly in Sauternes and Barsac for the production of sweet wines. It's often blended with Sauvignon Blanc or blended with Sémillon.
This grape is known for its intense floral aromas and pronounced fruit notes, often reminiscent of musk, hence its name. It can produce wines with a slightly spicy character. However, it can also exhibit more fresh fruit flavors such as peach, apricot, pear and citrus.
Muscadelle grapes are also fairly high in acidity, allowing them to contribute crispness or “bite” to wine blends. Despite its distinctive characteristics, Muscadelle is not widely cultivated and often plays a minor role in wine production.
