Malvasia is a group of wine grape varieties grown historically in the Mediterranean region, Balearic and Canary Islands, but also in many other parts of the world. Its grapes usually produce white wines that are characterized by their heavy body, high alcohol content and strong flavors, often with hints of peach, apricot, pear, or nuts. The aroma generally has notes of tropical fruits with a slight floral hint. Depending on the region and winemaking techniques, the wine can range from dry to sweet and can also be produced as a fortified wine. Some types of Malvasia are also used to produce dessert and sparkling wines. Malvasia typically has a bright, golden color when poured.
