Albariño is a white grape variety highly grown in Spain and Portugal but also found in regions in the United States, Uruguay, Argentina and Australia. Wines produced from Albariño grapes are typically light-bodied with high acidity. They are recognized for their distinctive aroma, often depicting botanical and citric notes such as lemons, limes, pear, almond blossom, and similar to fragrance of wet stones. They have great complexity and are known for their ability to produce wines that keep crisp, fresh and lively even after several years of bottle aging.
Given the high acidity, Albariño wines are versatile for food pairing options, particularly outstanding with dishes featuring seafood. These wines generally have moderate alcohol content and the best versions usually have a slight bitterness at the end. Albariño wines are often consumed young but can also be aged. The oak aged versions may have richer, creamier flavors.
