PlumpJack is a hospitality and lifestyle brand offering a variety of businesses spanning from winery operations, retail, restaurants, catering, resorts and more. It was founded in 1992 by San Francisco mayor and current governor of California, Gavin Newsom, along with philanthropist Gordon Getty. The name "PlumpJack" came from an opera by Getty, which was based on Shakespeare's plump, comedic character Sir John Falstaff. The brand is primarily located in the San Francisco Bay Area, but its developed properties are spread throughout Northern California.
PlumpJack Wine & Spirits was the first business under this brand, and it aimed to make the wine purchasing process more friendly and less intimidating. PlumpJack Winery in Napa Valley, established in 1995, is known for its unconventional approach to winemaking, particularly in its decision to use screw caps for its high-end wines.
In addition to its wine and spirits businesses, PlumpJack operates The Carneros Inn and several upscale restaurants. It also operates a clothing boutique known as PlumpJackSport.
Today, PlumpJack Group has grown its portfolio to include 18 innovative brands with numerous locations spread across Northern California and beyond. It prides itself on its playful, yet professional approach to hospitality and outstanding service.
