Northland is a region located in the northernmost part of New Zealand. It covers an area of approximately 13,940 square kilometers and has three main districts - Far North District, Whangarei District, and Kaipara District. The region is known for its striking landscapes which include dense forests, farmlands, untouched coastlines with golden sand beaches and sparkling waters.
Northland is also home to several significant historical sites, such as the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, which is widely considered as the birthplace of modern New Zealand. It includes the Treaty House where the Treaty of Waitangi (an agreement between the British Crown and Maori chiefs) was signed in 1840.
The region has a subtropical climate, characterized by warm humid summers and mild wet winters. Due to its climate, Northland is a key producer of kiwifruit, avocados, and other subtropical fruits.
