It has protected Designation of Origin (DO) status, meaning its production is legally regulated to maintain quality standards. Bizkaiko Txakolina is recognized for its gentle, light-body, typically featuring a slight natural sparkle, dry taste and a high acidity.
This wine is predominantly made using the hondarribi zuri grape variety, although other local varieties may be included. It is very traditionally Basque in character, often served as an aperitif and paired with the region's local seafood or tapas named pintxos.
