Ribera del Júcar is a Spanish wine region, located in the province of Cuenca and Albacete in Castilla-La Mancha. The region is named after the river Júcar, which crosses through it. The region is known for its outstanding quality of wines, predominantly reds with the main grape variety being Bobal, along with other varieties like Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
This wine region has a Mediterranean climate with extremes of temperature moderated by the influence of the Júcar River. The vineyards in Ribera del Júcar are found at altitudes between 600 and 1200 meters which helps to explain the diversity of its landscapes, soils and climates.
The wines from this region are noted for their deep color and strong character. The soil of the vineyards is made of clay and limestone, and it is very well-drained which is perfect for vine growing.
The Ribera del Júcar region was declared a Protected Designation of Origin (DO) in 2003. It is a relatively new but growing area in terms of wine recognition and prestige, with numerous wineries in the region working hard to produce wines of high quality.
