Krasnodar is a city located in the southwestern part of Russia, serving as the administrative center of Krasnodar Krai. It's the third-largest city in Russia in terms of population, with nearly 900,000 inhabitants as of 2020. The city enjoys a humid subtropical climate, with hot summers and mild winters.
Krasnodar was founded in 1793 as a military camp and was initially called Yekaterinodar, meaning "Catherine's Gift", referring to Catherine the Great. The city played a significant role in the Russian Civil War and the Second World War.
