Dealul Mare is a hill region located in Romania known for its vineyards and wine production. The region, which translates to "Big Hill" in English, is one of the most noteworthy wine producing regions in Romania, and viticulture here traces back many thousands of years.
Spread across the Carpathian Mountains in Wallachia, Dealul Mare has several wineries that specialize in producing red wines, predominantly from Fetească Neagră, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties, though it also produces white and rosé variants.
The region's geography and climate are particularly well-suited for vineyards, with ideal amounts of sunshine and rain, and good soil consisting of clay, limestone and sandstone. Its highest peak reaches up to 800m, which is covered with vineyards of more than 20,000 hectares.
Dealul Mare has a viticultural research center as well, and it attracts tourists with its expansive views, wine tours, and tastings.
