Colli del Trasimeno, or the hills of Trasimeno, is a wine region located in the Umbria region of central Italy. It is known for its scenic beauty and its production of high-quality wines including reds, whites, and rosés.
The region derived its name from Lake Trasimeno, the largest lake in central Italy, located in the province of Perugia. The favorable Mediterranean climate, the hilly landscapes, and the fertile soil of the area make it an ideal location for vine cultivation.
Colli del Trasimeno obtained DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) classification in 1972, which indicates that the wines are produced in specific, well-defined regions, according to strict rules that aim to preserve traditional wine-making methods.
The region produces a variety of wines using different grapes such as Grechetto, Trebbiano, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon, among others. The Colli del Trasimeno rosso, a red wine, is particularly well noted for its rich color and intense flavor.
