Monteregio di Massa Marittima

Monteregio di Massa Marittima is a wine denomination area located in the southwestern region of Tuscany, Italy. Named after the town of Massa Marittima located in the province of Grosseto, the Monteregio di Massa Marittima DOC permit variety of wines. Some of these include red, white, rosé, vin santo, and novello variants.

To qualify for the DOC designation, wines must meet specific standards relating to grape blend, aging, alcohol level, and production methods. For example, the red blend must have at least 50% Sangiovese, the white blend must have at least 30% Trebbiano Toscano, and the rosè must have at least 50% Sangiovese or Merlot or both combined.

This area, with its sun-drenched hillside vineyards and Mediterranean influences, produces wines with distinct flavors and good ageing potential. Besides the typical local grapes, various international varieties are also used, making the Monteregio di Massa Marittima wine region a unique blend of tradition and modernity.
