Carmignano and Barco Reale di Carmignano

Carmignano and Barco Reale di Carmignano are wines from the Tuscan region of Italy. Both of these wines are considered DOCG, or Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita, which translates to "Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin". This certification ensures that the wines are produced in a specific region using precise traditional methods.

Carmignano wine is particularly renowned and has a historical reputation dating back at least as far as one of the Medici grand dukes, Cosimo III who categorized the wine as one of the best in the Tuscany region in the early 18th century. It is a red wine that typically blends Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc to create a rich, full-bodied wine. Its flavor profile often includes notes of dark fruit, spice, and earthy undertones.

Barco Reale di Carmignano, on the other hand, might well be described as the "younger brother" of Carmignano. Named after a historic hunting park of the Medici family, Barco Reale is also a red blend, often made with the same types of grapes as Carmignano. However, it's typically fresher and lighter, intended for earlier drinking. It typically displays youthful, vibrant fruit flavors with less emphasis on earthy or spicy notes.
