Moscato Passito di Pantelleria is a sweet, high-quality and typically a dessert white wine produced on the small Italian island of Pantelleria, situated in the Mediterranean Sea between Sicily and Tunisia.
The wine is made from the Zibibbo grape variety, also known as Muscat of Alexandria, which thrives in the volcanic soil of the island. The grape clusters are manually harvested and then laid out in the sun to undergo a natural drying process, known as 'passito' in Italy. This process, which intensifies the sugar concentration within the grapes, combined with the unique soil and climate of Pantelleria, gives this wine its characteristic flavour and aroma.
Characteristically, Moscato Passito di Pantelleria has a golden or amber color, and intense aroma of apricot, honey, and other dried fruits. On the palate, it is creamy, rich, and well balanced with a pleasant acidity and persistent finish.
This wine has a DOC classification, which is an Italian quality assurance label for food products and wines, signifying its high quality and regional authenticity. It can be enjoyed on its own, or paired with pastries, cheeses, or fruit-based desserts. Due to its sweet character, it also works well as a pairing with spicy foods. The wine is best appreciated when served chilled.
