Bramaterra is a red wine that belongs to the region of Piedmont in Northern Italy. It gained its own DOC (Denomination of Controlled Origin) in 1979. This wine is a blend of Nebbiolo along with lesser-known grape varieties such as Croatina, Vespolina, and Uva Rara.
The Bramaterra region is known for its unique soil composed of porphyry, granite, and rocks from volcanic activity. This lends the wine produced here distinctive and complex characteristics.
A typical Bramaterra wine flaunts a ruby-red color which tends to garnet over time. The fragrant and harmonious aroma with hints of spices and red fruit is a standout. On the palate, this wine comes off as dry and full-bodied with an evident tannic note.
The aging process is a vital part of Bramaterra's winemaking. It includes a minimum of 2 years, of which at least 18 months must be in wooden barrels. The “Riserva” requires at least 4 years of aging. With age, Bramaterra wines become more harmonious and acquire further complexity.
Often Bramaterra wines are recommended to pair with roasted meats, game, and mature cheeses.
