Cerveteri is a town and commune in the Metropolitan City of Rome, in the Lazio region of central Italy. It is famous for the site of the ancient Etruscan city which was one of the most important Etruscan cities with an area of more than 15 square miles.
The town is renowned for the necropolis of Banditaccia, which has been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It covers an area of 400 hectares, 10 hectares of which can be visited, and different types of tombs have been found, ranging in date from the 9th century BC to the 3rd century BC.
Present day Cerveteri is a charming medieval town that hosts various festivals, arts and cultural events throughout the year. The town is also noted for its wine and agricultural products such as cereals, vegetables, grapes, and sunflowers. It is well connected with Rome and other Italian cities through a network of roads and railways.
