Emilia, also known as dell'Emilia, is a historical and geographical region in northern Italy, stretching from the Apennine Mountains to the River Po. It includes the provinces of Modena, Parma, Reggio Emilia, and parts of Bologna. The region is part of Emilia-Romagna, one of the 20 regions of Italy.
Emilia is known for its rich cultural heritage, with many historical landmarks such as the Ducal Palace in Modena, the Este Castle, and the Teatro Regio (Opera House) in Parma. Its culinary tradition is also renowned, including dishes like tortellini, lasagna, and ragu, as well as products like Parma ham and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese.
The region is well-connected by a network of motorways, and it also has an important agricultural sector, with a variety of crops being grown, including the grapes used to produce the famous Lambrusco and other wines.
The people of Emilia are generally known as Emilians, and speak Emiliano-Romagnolo, a language which, while closely related to Italian, is considered distinct.
