Lamezia Terme, often simply referred to as Lamezia, is a city in the Calabria region of Southern Italy. It is the most populated city and administrative center within the province of Catanzaro. Lamezia is known for its variety of historical, cultural, and natural attractions, alongside its Mediterranean climate that offers hot summers and mild winters.
Founded in 1968 by unifying three separate townships, Lamezia has a rich history that dates back to before the Roman era. Its historic buildings, ruins, and structures like the Norman-Swabian Castle, Bastion of the Knights of Malta and the Greek walls of Hipponion, are testament to its storied past.
The city’s culture is deeply tied to traditional Italian gastronomy, with a variety of local dishes and wines, not least due to Calabria's fame as a wine region.
Lamezia is also noteworthy as a transport hub; the Lamezia Terme International Airport is Calabria’s principal airport and the city is also well-connected by train. In recent years, Lamezia has been increasingly recognized as a tourist destination, with visitors drawn to its historic sites, beautiful landscapes, vineyards, and beaches.
