Rapsani is a wine-producing region in Thessaly, located in the central part of mainland Greece. It is well-known for producing high-quality red wines from a blend of three indigenous Greek grape varieties: Xinomavro, Krassato and Stavroto, planted on the slopes of Mount Olympus.
Rapsani wines are distinguished by their deep ruby red color, complex aromatic profile, rich flavors of cherry, plum, and blackberry, combined with spicy and earthy notes. These wines also have a robust structure and high tannins, making them suitable for aging.
Rapsani was granted Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status in 1971, signifying the high-quality wines inherent to this region. The vineyards in Rapsani are found at elevations ranging from 250 to 800 meters, with the higher altitude vineyards generally producing the more premium quality wines.
