Messenicola is a genus of fungi that belongs to the family Pyronemataceae. It was first described by the mycologist Sumner Charles Salmon in 1900. This genus consists of species that specifically grow on plant debris, decomposing organic matter, and dung. Some species have been reported from various parts of the world, including Europe, North America, and New Zealand. Very little is known about the biology or ecology of this genus, and more research needs to be conducted. The genus Messenicola currently encompasses only a fewknown species, making it relatively small compared to other fungal genera.
