Mosel-Saar-Ruwer is a wine region in Germany known for producing premium Riesling wines. It is actually now known as just "Mosel", named after the Mosel River that flows through the region.
The region is characterized by its steep, terraced vineyards that line the riverbanks, which provide the vines with optimum exposure to the sun, necessary for the growth of the Riesling grape. The soil in the region is mainly slate, which retains heat and helps in ripening the grapes.
Wines from Mosel-Saar-Ruwer are typically light-bodied with high acidity. They are often low in alcohol and can range from dry to sweet. The region is also known for its Eiswein (ice wine), a dessert wine made from grapes that have naturally frozen on the vine.
Mosel-Saar-Ruwer is divided into three districts: the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer. Each district produces slightly different styles of wine due to differences in their microclimates and soils. The region is home to several top-quality wine producers and is considered one of the top Riesling regions in the world.
