Monbazillac is a sweet white wine region in southwest of France, located in the Bordeaux wine region. It's best known for producing high-quality dessert wines from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle grape varieties. These wines are often compared to Sauternes, but are typically available at a fraction of the price.
The wines of Monbazillac have a bright golden color and are rich in flavors of honey, marmalade and ripe tropical fruits, with often a hint of spice. They are typically quite luscious and sweet, with enough acidity to balance the sugar, and can be incredibly long-lived.
Monbazillac is also the name of a village, situated on the left bank of the Dordogne river. It is home to the Chateau de Monbazillac, a 16th-century old historical chateau with panoramic views of the Dordogne valley, which is now owned by the Monbazillac Cellars Company and is open to visitors where they can tour the facility and see how the wine is made.
