Coteaux d'Aix en Provence

Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence is a wine-growing AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) located in the west part of the Provence wine region in Southeastern France. It stretches across 50 communes in the Bouches-du-Rhône department and four communes in the neighboring Var department. The region is primarily known for its rosé wine but also produces high-quality red and white wines.

The vast majority of the wine produced in Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence is rosé, made primarily from Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault grapes. The red wines are typically full-bodied and aromatic, with a deep red color, and are made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, and Syrah grapes. The white wines account for a small percentage of the region's production and are usually fresh and aromatic, made from Vermentino (Rolle), Grenache Blanc, and Ugni blanc.

The AOC was granted in 1985 and the region covers approximately 4000 hectares of vineyards. The landscape is characterized by hilly terrain, at an altitude between 120 and 500 meters, with a Mediterranean climate of hot, dry summers and cool, mild winters. The region is heavily influenced by the Mistral wind, which helps to keep the vines healthy and free of disease.

Each wine producer in this region has its own unique growing methods and wine-making techniques, but they all have one thing in common: a passion for creating exceptional wines reflective of the natural beauty and distinct terroir of Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence.
