Bellet is a small wine region located within the city of Nice in France. It is one of the smallest and oldest appellations in the country, established in 1941, and covers a tiny area of only 650 acres. This winemaking region specializes in the production of red, white and rosé wines.
The soils in Bellet are rich in pudding stones and clay, making the terrains suitable for growing varieties such as Braquet, and Rossese for red and rosé wines, and Rolle (also known as Vermentino) for white wines. The wines from this region are known for being full-bodied, aromatic and rich in flavor. The small size of this appellation and its low yield result in a limited production, the majority of which is consumed locally.
The vineyards in the Bellet region have an advantageous microclimate due to their positioning on the hills, being protected from the wind and receiving maximum sunlight, which is perfect for the slow maturation of the grapes.
