France > Loire Valley >
Sancerre

Sancerre is a small wine district in central France, renowned for its crisp, aromatic white wines made from Sauvignon Blanc. The region is also known for its high-quality, light-bodied red and rosé wines made from Pinot Noir. Sancerre is located in the eastern part of France’s Loire Valley, which is often referred to as the "Garden of France" due to its abundant vineyards, fruit orchards, and artichoke and asparagus fields.

The district is characterised by its hilly terrain, with vineyards situated at high altitudes of between 200 and 400 metres. The soil in Sancerre is a mixture of limestone and clay, which provides the perfect environment for the growth of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir grapes.

Sancerre wines are known for their extreme drinkability, bright acidity, and notes of citrus and minerals. The white wines of Sancerre are often noted for their strong mineral flavours, due to the unique limestone soil of the region. The red and rosé wines are often light, fresh and fragrant, offering a unique expression of the Pinot Noir grape.

Sancerre wine pairing is often done with seafood, chicken, and goat cheese.

Beside wine, Sancerre is also famous for its beautiful view - the town is perched on a hill and overlooks the gorgeous Loire Valley.

Despite its international renown, Sancerre remains a small, rural district, committed to maintaining the high quality and integrity of its wines.
