The region stretches across seventeen communes in the Nièvre and Loiret departments. It's situated in the northern part of the Loire Valley, sandwiched between the larger areas of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire to the east, and Orleans to the west.
The Coteaux du Giennois has a climate of semi-continental, with ideal conditions for both red and white wine production. Wines produced in this region are made from Sauvignon Blanc for the whites and Pinot Noir and Gamay for the reds.
